Top Projects of 2014

As 2014 comes to a close I'm taking a look back at the year and sharing my top blog posts.

This has been an eventful year in so many ways. Jacob and I started adding to our family and are expecting our first child in January and we decided to close our antique store after four wonderful years of business- to spend more time as a family.

Both of these events have kept us busy and will change our lives forever. I'm looking forward to being a stay-at-home-mom and this new chapter in our lives while continuing my decorating business and furniture projects too!

So, here are my top projects of 2014.

Thank you so much for following along and reading my blog! I want to wish you and your family a Happy New Year!

Here are my top projects from 2013.

I'm sharing this at Southern Hospitality and SAS Interiors.

Furnishing a Spa

Today I wanted to share a project that I recently helped decorate and furnish. Most all of the furniture used in this spa was from our store. The owner wanted a relaxing and fresh feeling. I was able to incorporate painted white and gray antique furniture, mercury glass lamps, linen drapes, and muted art.

The day the photos were taken was the open house tour. I was unable to get a foyer shot which has a dresser, art, two chairs, a bench, and another tall display cabinet from our store.

Most all of the pieces are used for displaying and storing all of their products.

Around the Shop: Furniture Makeovers

Happy Friday! Today I thought I'd share a few furniture makeovers that we have done for the shop lately. I love how each piece looks totally different once they were painted and freshened up. Here are the before and after pictures.

Red Vintage Chest

This was such a fun makeover to see in progress, because it started out dated and seriously needed a makeover. Each layer of paint and distressing brought this chest alive. I love the bright red paint mixed with the updated dark hardware.

Here's what the chest looked like when we bought it. Light oak with white and brass hardware.

Now it has updated oil rubbed bronze hardware that really accents the distressed red.

I added a few spring touches for its close up.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I'm sharing this makeover at City Farmhouse, Savvy Southern Style, Redoux, Miss Mustard Seed, 52 Mantels, and Green Willow Pond.

Framed Chalkboards

Today I wanted to share with you a simple DIY project using empty frames, white paint, and chalkboard paint to create a vintage inspired chalkboard.

We had these distressed, white frames for sale in our store and a friend of ours recently bought them to make framed chalkboards in their kitchen. I just love the way they turned out!

Here's what the frames looked like when we first bought them. They were just a tad bit too gold for my taste, but nothing a little paint can't fix.

Now they look great as chalkboards.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful weekend!

Writing Desk Makeover

Today I wanted to share with you a fun desk makeover we recently did for our store.

This desk has been sitting in our warehouse for over a year just waiting for a makeover.

Here's the before shot:

I just love the tiny details, curves, and moldings on this piece, plus the combination of cream with brass.

This desk has such a classic look that I adore.

Updated Cabinet

We recently scored this beautiful display cabinet along with a matching roll top desk and hutch. This was one of those deals where someone calls the store and wants us to look at some furniture they are willing to sell. A lot of times it's just not what we are looking for or not the right price for us to resale, but we lucked up with two awesome pieces that have wonderful curvy lines and details that we look for in our pieces.

It didn't last long in our store! I think this cabinet is the perfect size for a small space and it has just enough display and closed storage as well.

Here's what the cabinet looked like when we bought it.

We decided the glass on the doors needed to go, which reveals a lovely thick gauge wire cabinet door that I just love!

Here's an after shot of the roll top desk with hutch that we recently finished. It had similar wood to the cabinet in the before photo, just to give you an idea of what it looked like.

Sofa Table Update

I'm sure you've seen this style sofa table at tag sales and just walk right past them. Well, we saw the potential in this beauty and decided to give it a new life with just a little paint and distressing.

For the table top I left the natural color since the wood was in great condition- the contrast is a nice touch.

For the brass hardware I sanded, painted, and added a clear coat.

Now this updated sofa table is at our store waiting for a new home.

Mirror- Turned Chalkboard

As I mentioned in my last mirror makeover post. I've been cleaning out our warehouse and I've started to refurbish several old dresser mirrors. This particular mirror has wonderful curvy lines that I love, but the mirror had scratches and was too damaged for selling as is. So, I decided to paint and distress the frame a bold green color and then I primed and painted the mirror with black chalkboard paint to make it more updated and functional.

Here's what it looked like when I found it- pretty sad, huh?!

The mirror has come a long way! Now this bright chalkboard has a new home because it sold the second day we put it in the store. A sweet couple bought it for their baby's nursery.
