French Side Table Makeover

Today I'm sharing a quick and easy paint project that I worked on for my office upstairs. This french side table didn't start out so pretty. In fact, here's how it looked before. 

The painted flowers and brass hardware dated this side table, but the curvy legs and details were so beautiful. I painted it white and lightly distressed it for an updated new look.

Antique Dresser

Recently we have added several traditional antique pieces of furniture in our house. This mahogany flamed dresser found a new home in a spare room downstairs. This room will one day be our nursery, but until then it's being used as a sitting room.

This vignette is decorated with an eclectic mix of new and old pieces. The lamps, mirror, and pillows are new while the chairs, shutter, and other accessories are vintage.

Another feature that I love about this room is the detailed mirrored closet doors that date back to the 1800's.  

They are a main focal point of the room that add so much character to the space. I was so excited we were able to incorporate them into the new house!

This antique secretary is a family piece past down from my husbands family. It will eventually be moved upstairs to the guest bedroom.

I really love the look of the dark dresser with the light colored walls and accessories.

Spring Porch

Good afternoon! Today I thought I would share the progress of our spring porch. We are coming up on a year since we moved into our new house and we finally have the back porch projects finished. This past weekend we were busy hanging drapes and putting the new black sofa together.

 It's so nice to have the back porch all cleaned up and decorated for the warmer weather. We enjoy sitting outside at night watching TV, just lounging and relaxing.

There is a variety of vintage and newer pieces mixed together with DIY projects to create a comfortable, extended living space outside. 

For example, the wooden bench and chippy shutters were flea market finds, the iron tables, rug, pillows, and sofa is new, and the rustic coffee table was revamped by us. 

I can't get enough of bright potted flowers and ferns this time of year! They really help freshen up the back porch.

This decorative mirror and boxwood wreath are perfect for this black iron table.

We bought canvas Sunbrella fabric and cut to length for instant outdoor drapes. We tried drop-cloth fabric drapes at our old house and loved the look, but they mildewed and were a mess. So we decided to go with real outdoor fabric and just make our own this go around. 

Not only do I love the look of the drapes, but they are perfect for sun control and allow privacy too.

I'm sure we will be spending a lot of time out here this spring and summer.

Distressed Chest

Happy Monday! Today I wanted to share with you this small pine chest that I updated for our store. Someone actually gave us this piece of furniture for free- can't beat that! It was one of the many projects that I worked on this past week. 

Since this piece had such simple lines, I thought it needed to be distressed for added character.

Here's what it looked like before.

I simply updated the hardware from brass to oil rubbed bronze with spray paint.

I'm excited how this freebie chest looks with a fresh coat of paint.

Vintage Egg Prints

Since it's Easter week, I thought it would be fitting to share with you my recent art purchases from a flea market. They are vintage egg prints that I had framed for our living room. 

The speckled eggs are so subtle in color, yet they have a beautiful sage green background that makes them stand out. 

Lately the simplicity and beauty of nature has inspired me in decorating our home. The framed prints make a great addition hanging on either side of the cased opening leading into the kitchen.  

I also bought these vintage fern prints from the same vendor. I had them framed in a chunky gold frame for our kitchen dining area. You can see more details about that space here.

Queen Anne Bench Makeover

I was visiting my sister in Atlanta several months ago and found this beautiful bench for $20 at a thrift store! It had such great bones and it only needed to be reupholstered, so I snatched it up.

Here's what it looked like when I bought it. It was dated and in desperate need of a makeover.

I already had the drop cloth fabric from previous projects, including this Drop Cloth Bench in our master bedroom. So it ended up only costing me $20 to have it reupholstered. Now I have a new bench for $40.

I really love how it turned out and how well it fits on this small wall in our kitchen nook area. You can read more about this space here.

Spring Kitchen Nook

Hey there. I hope you've had a wonderful week! I don't know about you, but I'm really enjoying the warmer weather. It's been super busy for us around the store lately, which is always a good thing! Now I'm ready to kick off the weekend.

First I want to share with you a little more spring decor from around our home. I freshened up the kitchen nook table with crisp white dishes and napkins along with birds nest. I added some color with the green vase and floral stems.   

When we built our house I knew I would need a narrow kitchen nook table to accommodate the space. That was no problem since we already had the perfect size table in our store. It was originally made to be island height, so we just shortened the legs. I love that the table was custom made from a customers late father. It was bare wood when we bought it, so I just painted and distressed it to go with our decor.

The wood dining chairs were a great find years ago and the cream head chairs were recently bought new. I love to mix old and new pieces throughout our home.

Another thing I love about this space is the natural sunlight. I'm still debating about hanging linen drapes on these windows.
