Red Vintage Chest

This was such a fun makeover to see in progress, because it started out dated and seriously needed a makeover. Each layer of paint and distressing brought this chest alive. I love the bright red paint mixed with the updated dark hardware. 

Here's what the chest looked like when we bought it. Light oak with white and brass hardware.

Now it has updated oil rubbed bronze hardware that really accents the distressed red.

I added a few spring touches for its close up.

Spring Vignettes

Hello there! Today I want to share with you some photos from around our home, all freshened up for Spring.  

If I had to choose just one season, Spring would be my most favorite of the year.

 It's all about new growth, flowers blooming, and all things green.

 Not to mention the warmer weather, longer days, and being able to wear shorts and sandals.

Even though the groundhog predicted a longer winter, I still can't help but get excited about what's to come.

Here's a quick and heart-warming story about my framed bird nest's. Recently I was at a vintage flea market and found these beautiful pieces of art a lady was selling. I was immediately drawn to the chippy framed bird nests and just knew I had to buy them! 

She started to tell me the inspiration behind them: she developed cancer last year and she was sitting outside running her hands through her hair as it fell out into the wind and about a week later her husband brought her a birds nest that was made out of her hair from the yard, that a bird had made. She said it was reassurance that God was going to take care of her and that everything was going to be okay. Oh, I had chills as she told me that! She had such a sweet spirit as we talked briefly that day. 

I also found this guy and these speckled eggs that same day.

Lamp Revamp

So it all began with a spontaneous trip to a thrift store in Atlanta while visiting my sister. We had been antique shopping all day and decided to stop in a few thrift stores on our way to dinner that night. I'm so glad we did because I found this beautiful iron lamp, a needlepoint pillow, and a fabulous bench for $20 that is currently getting reupholstered- I can't wait to share that project! 

The iron lamp I found was bright purple, but I could clearly see the beautiful details and finished product so I had to buy it. It just goes to show that you never know what you'll find when you have a totally different vision for thrifted items. 

Here's what it looked like before. 

Now since I painted it with several coats of light gray paint, it looks so much more sophisticated and now it's ready to shine!

Framed Chalkboards

Today I wanted to share with you a simple DIY project using empty frames, white paint, and chalkboard paint to create a vintage inspired chalkboard.

We had these distressed, white frames for sale in our store and a friend of ours recently bought them to make framed chalkboards in their kitchen. I just love the way they turned out!

Here's what the frames looked like when we first bought them. They were just a tad bit too gold for my taste, but nothing a little paint can't fix.

Now they look great as chalkboards.

Writing Desk Makeover

Today I wanted to share with you a fun desk makeover we recently did for our store. 

This desk has been sitting in our warehouse for over a year just waiting for a makeover.

Here's the before shot:

  

I just love the tiny details, curves, and moldings on this piece, plus the combination of cream with brass.

This desk has such a classic look that I adore.

New House: Guest Bathroom

Yesterday I posted about our Guest Bedroom Progress and today I just wanted to share with you our guest bathroom that connects to that bedroom. This West Elm gray and white striped shower curtain was a purchase even before the house was built. The bathroom has a collected feel with items I've picked up here and there.    

I've had the decorative plaster piece above the shower for many years and thought it fit perfect in this bathroom. The old galvanized olive bucket came in handy for storing extra towels.

Keeping with the neutral color scheme from the bedroom I used antique wicker demijohns and a metal garden trellis on the countertop for decoration.

The distressed mirror helps make the room feel larger and the bench was a flea market find that I painted and reupholstered.

New House: Guest Bedroom Progress

This guest bedroom upstairs has been a work in progress since we moved this past summer. It's one of those rooms that seems to change weekly. I'm always rearranging accessories around our house, especially this bedroom. I waited last to furnish and decorate this room, it has a collected feel from all of my antiquing treasures that I've picked up over the years mixed with a few new accessories.

Like I said, it's a work in progress. This bedroom still has two empty walls. The large wall opposite the bed needs a TV console/chest and more artwork to fill the wall. I eventually want an actually bed and not just the antique screen used as a headboard now, but I'll wait to find the perfect one. 

Can you tell that I'm ready for Spring! Preserved boxwood and dried hydrangeas are my favorite go to for any season.

This antique leather trunk was once used as our coffee table in the old house. Now it's storage for the foot of the bed. I think it adds texture to this all neutral room.
