2016 Christmas Home Tour

Welcome friends!

Today I wanted to share with you a part of my heart- the place I get to call home.

As soon as you enter through the front door this is the sight you see. Our front foyer and staircase is welcoming with plenty of greenery and white lights. This year I went with an all gold theme for our main tree. 

Moving to the main living area where we spend the majority of our time as a family. This tree was in our dining room last year and made its way back into the family room with a woodland theme this year.

I love seeing the wonder and excitement in my little girl's eyes. This is her second Christmas and its been so magical this year. My love for the season has grown since we get to experience it all with her! 

Not only is it the season to rejoice & celebrate our Savior's birth, but it's also a time to spend with dear family and friends.

Moving to the dining room. This year I simplified this space with a flocked wreath, a little garland, red pillows, and tiny trees added to our everyday decor. Of course, I had to display my traditional Christmas dishes on the table- love those.

DIY Magnolia Wreath

Earlier this week I shared our Fall Front Porch and Foyer all decorated for the season. 

Today I wanted to show you how to make this beautiful fall magnolia wreath. 

I love the magnolia wreaths from high end retailers, but they're a little pricey for me ($100-300 each), so I decided to make my own for a lot less at only $20! 

If you would like to make your own magnolia wreath for $20 all you'll need is a medium size wreath form, two faux magnolia leaf sprays from Hobby Lobby  
(50% off), scissors, and a hot glue gun. 

First cut all the leaves off the branches, then start gluing the leaves on the wreath all pointing in one direction around the form, then layer more leaves as you completely cover the form. It takes a little time, but the result is well worth it!

Spring Vignettes

Hello there! Today I want to share with you some photos from around our home, all freshened up for Spring.  

If I had to choose just one season, Spring would be my most favorite of the year.

 It's all about new growth, flowers blooming, and all things green.

 Not to mention the warmer weather, longer days, and being able to wear shorts and sandals.

Even though the groundhog predicted a longer winter, I still can't help but get excited about what's to come.

Here's a quick and heart-warming story about my framed bird nest's. Recently I was at a vintage flea market and found these beautiful pieces of art a lady was selling. I was immediately drawn to the chippy framed bird nests and just knew I had to buy them! 

She started to tell me the inspiration behind them: she developed cancer last year and she was sitting outside running her hands through her hair as it fell out into the wind and about a week later her husband brought her a birds nest that was made out of her hair from the yard, that a bird had made. She said it was reassurance that God was going to take care of her and that everything was going to be okay. Oh, I had chills as she told me that! She had such a sweet spirit as we talked briefly that day. 

I also found this guy and these speckled eggs that same day.

Fresh Greenery Picture Frame Wreath

Make this simple fresh greenery wreath with an empty picture frame.

What you will need:

• Twine
• Scissors
• Extra Tree Clippings
• Empty Frame
• Decorations and Ribbon

1. Start with a frame of your choice.

2. Collect fresh greenery clippings.

3. Lay the greenery against the frame in a thick cluster, cover the sides and front so the frame doesn't peek through.

4. Wrap the twine tightly around the greenery and the frame, all the way around.

5. Cut the extra twine ends and trim the branches where needed.

6. Decorate with your desired ribbon and ornaments.

Fall Magnolia Wreath

I love fall along with all of the trees changing colors, the slightly cooler weather, and the thought of wearing boots, sweaters, and scarfs really makes me happy. But it's still in the upper eighties here in Alabama as I decorate for fall. Every year I try to rush the fall decor along with my fall wardrobe. Whatever the temperature may be in your area, you can never have enough seasonal decor. 

Today I'm sharing with you how I made this simple and free magnolia wreath. 

I started out with a large grapevine wreath and just began filling it with magnolia leaves all the way around the wreath- layering in one direction, then I added hot glue where needed. 

Some of the leaves are nicely dried and have that wonderful brown on the backsides, while the majority are luscious shiny and green. The combination of the two colors have a nice contrast for a fall wreath. The wreath really makes a statement hanging in our foyer!

DIY Coffee Filter Wreath

I've wanted to make one of these fluffy white wreaths for awhile now! It was so simple to make and cost less than $5. It took about an hour to complete, but well worth the time. I used a pack of coffee filters, a hot glue gun, a wreath form, and burlap ribbon.

Just take the ruffled edge of each coffee filter and poof them, then hot glue the bottom of the filters all the way around the wreath. Make sure the filters are glued very close to each other- to make your wreath full. I hung the wreath in our store with burlap ribbon.

Spring Burlap Wreath

Hello Friends! I hope you are having a good day so far.

I wanted to share with you a cute little burlap wreath I made for spring. The weather has been beautiful here in Alabama so I have been decorating and spring cleaning.

I love how this wreath turned out, originally I wanted to use natural colored burlap, but purple was all I had at the time. I knew I wanted it to be easily interchangeable because I plan on gifting this burlap beauty to a friend.

Here's how I made it.

Materials:

A straw wreath form

Approx. 1 yard of burlap

Straight pins

Extra decorative accessories of your choice 

{I used a newspaper bird, birds nest, and my DIY moss initial}

1. I started out wrapping the wreath form with 3" wide strips of burlap {I cut along the length of the burlap so the strips were long}. It took about 3 strips to get all the way around. I just pinned them in place.  

2. I cut A LOT of 4x4 square burlap pieces. It doesn't have to be perfect at all. 

3. Next, I took the squares one at a time and folded them in half.

4. And then in half again.

Then I simply used straight pins to pin them into the wreath form. I pinned two together {side by side} at a time, which sped up the tedious process of folding and pinning. Go all the way around until you're done. 

I made the moss initial from a wooden letter wrapped in sheet moss using craft glue. Just cut the sheet moss about an inch or so extra around the letter- then wrap and glue. So simple! It was made for less than $5.

Then, I just added a burlap ribbon and hung it up. Now I'm ready for spring!

Spring Moss Wreath

Happy Monday! I want to share with you a little craft project I worked on yesterday as I helped decorate a friend’s parents' house. We had a great time shopping for home accessories and creating this springtime moss wreath. She already had the moss wreath left over from her daughter's wedding, so we just tweaked it a bit and took what we didn't need off.

While in a local craft store we found a small wood and metal birdhouse, a redbird, and a wooden letter J {we painted brown} that was perfect for the wreath. As we were putting the wreath together we came across another charming, vintage redbird to add to our spring wreath. Needless to say, this wreath now has another purpose; it's hanging beautifully on a mirror from our store, in their newly decorated living room.

I love just about anything related to natural materials and natural colors, so this mossy wreath mixed with burlap fabric makes me smile!
