Beach Condo Updates

We went for a long weekend beach trip this past weekend and while we were at our condo I decided to go out picking, thrifting, and shopping which then led to many projects I had to complete on my vacation. I'm not complaining, I love doing quick decorating updates. Our beach condo has been getting furniture and accessory updates slowly over the past year and it still has a little ways to go. I found a carload of finds on my first stop in Foley, AL. I bought an unfinished side table, old shutters, a lot of driftwood, metal planters (that I want to turn into pendant lights), and so much more. Next time we head south I'll be taking a truck, for sure. Here are some of the updates I added this past weekend.

This Shutter Headboard is my favorite addition. It really adds so much charm to the guest bedroom.

I purchased three new bedside lamps and new pillows at Target. I tried to keep everything neutral and relaxing for the bedrooms. 

I needed some inexpensive artwork for the guest room and we already had a few canvases we weren't using anymore, so I just spray painted them white, cut several toilet paper rolls in strips (I know. Sounds weird.) and glued them in a flower shape to create (free) artwork.

Repurposed Vintage Firescreen

This vintage firescreen was one of the great pieces we found a few weeks ago. It's actually too small to use for a modern-day firescreen, so I decided to repurpose it into a memo/photo board. It would be perfect sitting on a desktop or any piece of furniture around the house. I also think it would be precious with a small wreath hanging from the handle. The day after I put this little guy out at the store, it sold! I guess someone else thought it was a good idea too. 

I love the vintage typography on this envelope.

The metal screen is perfect for clipping notes, reminders, inspiration, and photos all in one place.

The metal legs have beautiful details.

I added a few clothespins and sheet music to several vintage shutters we had sitting around the store. Shutters make great memo/photo displays because of all their slats. I just love this clever and inexpensive repurpose.

Spring Mantel

I just wanted to share with you the spring mantel I put together at our store. I gathered a few of my favorite things... architectural pieces, fresh greenery, a mirror, vintage books, old keys, and glassware. Then I added a few handmade items in the mix.

I took a plain frame- painted and distressed it, made fabric flowers, added my initial, a bird nest and eggs then hung it with burlap ribbon for a natural looking spring wreath. 

I layered moss in a silver container, added a small bright floral arrangement, and a fern for some fresh greenery.

This charming mantel was salvaged from New Orleans. Some of my favorite characteristics about this old mantel is the detailed curved top along with the years of chipped and layered paint- in all the right places.

Salvaged Shutters- Turned Screen

We had a customer come into our store looking for a privacy screen room divider and we ended up repurposing one from old salvaged window shutters for her. The original henge's were still intact from years of wear and tear and we were able to henge them together to form the screen panels. The chippy and weathered paint are original and coordinated well with her decor. This project was a lot of fun to work on with such a great customer!
